Woggle

A playful camera toy that lets children capture moments without interrupting play.

Woggle is a camera toy designed to let children capture spontaneous moments during playtime. Instead of asking children to stop, pose, or leave the flow of play, the product turns capturing into part of the experience itself.

The project explored how interaction, movement, form, feedback, and imagination can come together in a product that feels playful, intuitive, and easy to understand.

Process

From play observation to playful interaction.

The project started by looking at children's play behaviour and the way they naturally explore objects, movement, and interaction. The goal was not to design a camera that interrupts play, but a toy that makes capturing part of the play itself.

Through moodboards, sketches, prototypes, usability tests, and digital modelling, the idea evolved into a camera object with movement, light feedback, a joystick interaction, and a playful form language.

Process
01

Analysing play

The first phase focused on understanding the target users: children. We explored how they interact with toys, how they move, how they discover functions, and how a camera could become part of their natural play behaviour instead of interrupting it.

02

Exploring form

The ideation phase translated the research into sketches, moodboards, and early concepts. We explored playful proportions, soft shapes, movement, and interaction possibilities before choosing a direction that felt dynamic and approachable.

03

Prototyping and testing

Early prototypes were made from simple materials such as cardboard and paper to test the first interactions. Later versions became more refined, including a coil-inspired movement that made the product more expressive and fun to use.

04

Visualising the product

The final phase focused on CAD modelling, rendering, product identity, and presentation. The product was visualised as a working concept with clear interaction details, playful feedback, and a strong visual language.

The product

Playtime, captured spontaneously.

Woggle is designed as a camera toy that encourages children to capture moments while they are still playing. The product combines camera functionality with physical movement, light feedback, and a playful object language.

A joystick button controls the main functions: press to take photos, hold to record videos, and push to zoom. A built-in display helps frame scenes, while internal lights and the moving coil give children immediate feedback during use.

01

Capture

Children can take photos or videos during play without needing to stop the activity completely.

02

Move

The flexible coil between the handle and lens adds movement and makes the camera feel more like a toy than a static device.

03

Control

A simple joystick interaction keeps the controls understandable: press, hold, and push for different actions.

04

Feedback

Light feedback and changing visuals make the interaction more engaging and help children understand the product.
